Mackerras and the Prague Chamber Orchestra do a magnificent job with
Mozart. His accounts reveal a thorough acceptence of scholarly performance
practices with regards to tempos, accents, repeats, and orchestral setting,
yet it is achieved with traditional instruments. The playing is clean and
exciting, often at breakneck speeds.
Harnoncourt is an erratic interpreter of Mozart. The only Harnoncourt
performance that ranks well in my opinion are the last three symphonies
of Mozart.
