I realised, some years ago, that I hadn't listened to Hogwood's late
Mozart symphonies since shortly after I bought them.
When I relistened, I realised why - I think they're horrible.
I'mnot familair with Bernstein's Mozart (although his Haydn s not so dusty)
but I'm going to recommend ... Klemperer. His early 50s Mozart have I
gather been reissued by Testament and pre-setting-himself-on-fire Klemps
is a leaner, taughter animal than post.
For something on modern but with a HIP flabour, try eeither
Mackerras/Prague CO (Telarc) or Menuhin/Sinfonia Varsava (Virgin).
