David Stewart wrote that the beginning of VW's 1st "gets annoying after a
while."

I was sent to the Tower by the British Music List by confessing that all
his symphonies have sections that annoyed me after a while, and continue
to do so. The 1st, 2nd, 5th and 7th are worst in this regard: their best
moments are so sublime, the contrast with the annoying parts is all the
more grating.

Lest I bug VW fans, let me emphasize the above is just a personal opinion,
that I loved VW passionately for years, but the "after a while" of decades
brought forth some bad cracks in VW's charm which hopefully will not emerge
for luckier musical psyches.

Mr. Stewart, however, is apparently not one of them, so he is forewarned.
