I recall from my college years a theory/literature professor who held
Bach's Cantata #140 (particularly the duet "Wann Kommst du, Mein Heil?")
as an example of eroticism in Bach, the kind of music that he would have
put into operas had he written any. We must also remember that there
was nothing keeping this straight-laced religious man from fathering
20 children.
