Wilson Pereira asks about recordings of Scheherazade, specifically:

>- Sir Thomas Beecham's (EMI Great Recordings of the Century Edition).
>- Karajan's (DG Galleria).

The Beecham is truly a "Great Recording of the Century ". Though recorded
in 1957 the sound is still admirable and the elegance and finesse with
which Beecham imbues it is a far cry from the surface technicolor splash
so many conductors show.

I don't know the Karajan DG version, but it is not generally mentioned in
the top ranks.

For an alternative to Beecham (or a supplement, rather) go for Reiner and
the Chicago Symphony (BMG/RCA). Again it is an old recording [1960] but
the sound is spectacular and the performance superb.

[As always the above is all IMHO.]
