No, the Seventh was a mid-60's studio recording, which I first purchased on
black discs in Prague in 1968 (!). Paired with some Wagner as a recall, to
fill out the 4th side.
About the same time as the Seventh he recorded the Fifth in a sui generis
Schalk/Matacic confabulation, with wonderful playing and recording of the
Czech Phil. Don't think this has made it to CD, though.
He did a much later 8th with the NHK Symphony, Japan, which didn't thrill
me too much, mainly due to the unidiomatic and sloppy playing of the orch.
A "Denon/Supraphon" recording and disc, when Denon was pressing and
distributing the Supraphon mark.
Then two very late live recordings of the Ninth, both released by
Supraphon, one with the Czech PO and the other with the Slovenian
Philharmonic, as I recall.
The Czech PO Ninth I have, and it is quite fine. Haven't heard the
Slovenian disc.
I still think the Seventh is something quite special.
