I second Ray's admiration of Naxos. I have not been a big fan in the past,
but Naxos just keeps getting better as to recording quality, artist
excellence, and repertoire.

Many months ago, I commented to the list that even Naxos could not sit on
its laurels and needed to continue analyzing the market and initiating new
strategies. Those comments did not receive much support, but I've noticed
that Naxos has not stood still. It has increased its rate of disc issues
while other companies have decreased theirs, provided the historical
series, and now the American series.

The "majors" would be well advised to adopt some of the Naxos philosophy.
Instead, they just continue with the same stupid thinking of the past;
actually, they are operating at a greater level of "dumb" than usual.
Short-term is all they APPEAR to concentrate on. Michael Bolton, Titanic,
cameo discs, various assortments of crossover discs - it's all garbage in
and out to secure immediate profits. I still believe that their long-term
goal is to change the essence of classical music. It's all for a good
cause - bucks. What in the world ever happened to the notion of making
money by providing excellent products and services? Just a rhetorical
question.
