I can only give an opinion on Jarrett's performance of Shostakovich's
Preludes and Fugues on ECM.  (Which I hope is not entirely unwelcome.)

Put shortly, these are very worthwhile recordings.  At one level I prefer
the composer's own recordings for the way they capture the songs and spirit
of the pieces.  Jarrett has his own vision of this music, however, and an
exemplary technique with which to convey it.
