Vox Humana is a setting for voices (men's voices IIRC) and string orchestra
of socially conscious poems (all translated into Swedish) by Latin American
poets. The choice of poems is quite eloquent, and it was my feeling that
Pettersson's music weakened rather than strengthened their utterances. His
conservativsm undercut what he was trying to say, and I remember longing
for the incisiveness of a Penderecki (as he shows in his good stuff) to
make it worthwhile.
