Everitt Clark recounted the story of Lully's death, concluding:

Just to add one or two points to Mr. Clark's account. The work Lully was
leading at the time was his "Te Deum." This choral work was composed for
the baptism of Lully's son, and the godfather was none other than Louis XIV
himself. It was a subsequent performance during which the fatal accident
occurred, however.
