I thank Jon for his considerate response.  I realize that I'm on "shaky"
ground here, and it's gratifying that a list member would try to look at
the possible validity of what I wrote instead of trashing it.

There are two additional comments I have.  The four criteria I outlined
are not peculiar to Germanic music.  Second, these criteria don't tend to
operate in a vacumn.  They coalesce in various combinations and further
highlight the Germanic elements for me.
