If you don't count those childish tunes K.214 & K215 which Mozart called
marches, marches have been the same for all time, even the ancient Greek
citystates had marches with these characteristics, aggressive drum and
trumpetryhthms.  The exception was the Spartiats from wary Sparti, who
only played very calm flute music for their troops.
