By the way, someone else commented that he would rather hear a passionate
but unpolished amateur orchestra perform than a technically correct but
uninspired professional orchestra.  So would I.  But that is not the point.
The passion displayed by the amateur orchestra is praiseworthy and not
mediocre.  Mediocrity, by its very definition, should not be praised.
