 From one who is no longer testing the Mahler waters w/ his toe, but hasn't
gotten in much beyond his waist either:  I've heard the work on recording
and I've heard it live in Tel Aviv (Mehta conducting the Israel
Philharmonic) and I find it one of the most lugubrious works of music I've
ever listened to.
