I'm also an Elgarian who has never gone overboard over Du Pre's
Elgar Concerto.  My reaction is that it's good *if you like it done like
that*, which I don't.  Deryk mentions Harrison with Elgar and I share
his veneration for that.  I also like, as does Roger Hecht, Navarre with
Barbirolli.  Another favourite of mine is Tortelier with Boult.  Among more
recent recordings there is a lot to be said for Julian Lloyd-Webber with
Menhuin of fond memory.  I prefer all of those to Du Pre.
