Steve Schwartz writes:

So it is. But the Judaeo-Christian tradition managed to organize it that
way. Well then, how did they know that they hadn't picked a false god for
worship? The answer to that, Revelation, surely holds also for music which,
Steve informs us, has been taking over the temple from religion since the
19th century. But whether a temple is votive to one God or to many gods,
it tends strongly to be beholden to one religion--or its surrogate,
music--exclusively. A certain amount of ecumenical activity is okay, but
anything beyond that militates against the temple's own religion, own
raison d'etre.
