I recently picked up Lulu on the Chandos label with Schirmer and the DNR
Symphony Orchestra. It's my first encounter with this particular opera and
I must say that once again I'm very impressed with Berg's user friendly
handling of 12-tone system--particularly in act II, scene 1 where Lulu
soars rapturously over some beautifully shifting chords in the orchestra.

Problem: The Lulu of Constance Herman. Very shrill and forced.

The Gramophone considers the Boulez and his Lulu, (Stratas?) the best but
delicately complains that the orchestal accompaniment is "chilly." Has
anyone heard both recordings?
