Speaking of Toch, a year or two ago EMI reissued the original Pittsburgh
Symphony recording of Toch's third symphony.  I was at the world premiere
in the mid-50s, and though I was too young to judge at the time, Steinberg
was a pretty good advocate for the music.  On the same CD is one of the
best Mathis der Malers I've ever heard.
