Not directly, but i often heard and read, that Faust (by Lenau) has
influenced Liszt creating the b minor sonata.  In "Musik beim Wort
genommen" english title: "Music sounded out" by Alfred Brendel, three
themes of the sonata are compared to Faust, Mephisto and Gretchen...
But he declares such associations as a hypothesis.

So, in the end, you are obviously right, if you say, that the work is
absolute music.
