The only gales of change I see have to do with marketing.

I guess I would disagree. One can plan on developing one's product...is it
not then up to marketing to sell it?

I would agree that one needs to adapt but I still believe it is central to
have some long range vision and a sense of purpose. To me, if you know
where you are going you can handle the rapids and other barriers more
easily.
