The interesting article Dave Lampson posted quoted the CM share of the
record market as 2.3%. I take it this is the US market. Does anyone know
the corresponding fraction in Europe? And how these numbers have varied
since the days of LP?

Back in the 60s, I read once that CM constituted 10% of the American record
market, and 20% of the European. More recently (but I don't remember just
when), I read that the figures were 5% in the US and 10% in Europe. The
2:1 ratio is consistent with everybody's impression of *kultur* on the two
continents. The appearance of a steady decline on both continents ought
to tell us something, if it is correct. Is it?
