I got the Saint-Saens Piano Trios #1 & 2, done by the Joachim Trio
(8.550935), on Mimi Ezust's advice. A great recommendation. They mull
over the #1 at a much more pensive pace than the Caecilian Trio's version
on Vox CD 3X 3031 -- whose treatment on that album, by the way, of the
Ravel Trio remains unsurpassed, AFAIC. The Joachims take a full 5 minutes
longer, but none of it's wasted. The #2, unknown to me till now, is a
beaut as well. Thanks for this recommendation.
Speaking of recommendations, does anyone know the music of Michael Easton,
Australian composer? Recommendable? In what vein does he mine for musical
gold? I ask since I was at the shop recently and ran into this in the Naxos
section:
Michael Easton (b. 1954): Concerto on Australian Themes; Concerto for Piano
Accordion, Piano and Strings; An Australian in Paris; Beasts in the Bush;
and an Overture. It was an Australian ensemble or orchestra (...someone on
this list has made me v self-conscious about taking extensive notes at my
music shop!), on Naxos 8.554368
Anyone?
