I am dismayed by the absolutist vs.  relativist tone of the debate on this
thread.  What talented male musicians are being denied a decent livlihood
by not being asked to play for the WP? Is their a cabal of WPs out there
strangleholding the country?

No, the WP is just a peep among the plethora of "normal" orchestras.  I say
give these people a chance to be proud of their solidarity.  Give women the
opportunity to play brass, percussion and bass where they are rarely found
in other orchestras.  Give the WP the chance to follow its other noble
goal:  to expose the public to works written by women which may have
otherwise never seen the light of day.

No, I say give women a chance on their own until they have exceeded their
fair share of 50% of the musical power structure in America!  They have a
long way to go.
