In the War Memorial? Not exactly. SFO may not have a lineup this good.
Try across Grove Street, in Davies Hall.
This partial casting for SF *Symphony concerts* next season came from
Michael Tilson Thomas, speaking by phone from a stormy Miami (where he
is spending a month with his other orchestra, the remarkable New World
Symphony).
The Symphony's increasing push for vocal music includes the
Gheorghiu-Alagna duet in Puccini arias at the gala opening (MTT denied
the rumor that Kathleen Battle may be added to the concert to make things
run smoother); Voigt singing the final scene of `Salome'; Hampson in songs
by Ives and in the premiere of MTT's own "Whitman Songs"; and *three*
different programs featuring DeYoung who is on the top of the MTT booster
list, has been for years.
The Schreier Group offers Bach's St. Matthew Passion; Te Kanawa's program
is not yet known; Larmore-Moser-Halvarson are featured in the San Francisco
*premiere* of Elgar's "The Dream of Gerontius," Donald Runnicles
conducting.
With this, plus Cal Performances and San Francisco Performances presenting
dozens of singers at the same time, SFO needs to work a bit harder to
regain leadership in vocal music.
