Peter Harzem responds to Andrew Carlan:

Peter is off track in stating that every lover of classical music would
have to be rich for any redistribution for the Arts to not be appropriate.
It's just the "average" that counts.

Without allocating any funds for the Arts, the Feederal Government does
indirectly support the Arts and all other activites in the U.S. Just
providing the country with effective national defense allows American
artists the freedom to create without interference from foreign sources.

As another list member mentioned, the monies allocated to support the Arts
have become so small that this issue of "support" has little significance
at this time. Hopefully, the allocations will remain minimal; that's also
good for the health of the Arts in this country.
