Mostly true, but I think that Mozart's violin sonatas and piano trios are
very worthy works that don't get recorded frequently enough. They are not
deep works, but they contain a high quality of melodic invention as only
Mozart can provide, and I find them very enjoyable.
I'm at work, so names escape me at the moment. However, I'm partial
to the piano trios on a 2-cd set on Harmonia Mundi performed on period
instruments. For the violin sonatas, Harmonia Mundi issued a few discs
which were excellent. However, my favorite versions are on EMI performed
by Zimmerman on violin(modern instruments).
Another unappreciated work is the Requiem in C by Zelenka on Claves. The
record was issued about 10 years ago. This is beautiful and exciting
music, about the best Zelenka composed, and he is no slouch.
