I confess to a personal short circuit on this issue. I listenned to
the broadcast of the concert on Saturday evening and must classify my
personal reaction once again as "competant." The composition is certainly
of high quality, without doubt. The performance was excellent given
the less appropriate use of modern instruments with this Baroque music.
Nonetheless, this episodic piece neither appealed to me in live performance
initially nor in broadcast on the second occasion. It may have worked
better with dancers. However, the Beethoven Eroica was to die for. No
accounting for taste, is there?
