If that's all it takes for a memorable Symphonic Dances, perhaps I should
seek out the Previn.
In the meantime, I listen to the late 40s monophonic version by Erich
Leinsdorf and the Rochester Philharmonic, for its spare, no-nonsense
excitement (typical of this conductor), and for its powerful anger in the
finale (Rachmaninov's final thoughts that he would never again see his
native Russia).
