I can vouch for the fact that lots of CM organizations operate on the basis
of name recognition as does any other branch of show biz and as do many
branches of business. I routinely get turned down from consideration of my
work for my not being famous enough. The scores are often not opened. The
gatekeeper mentality(evidenced in radio as well as concert organizations)
often says "We never heard of this guy before so our audience probably
won't like it and we don't want to risk our meal ticket by exposing them to
it." (Those of you on this list who are exceptions know who you are, and of
course this does not apply to you.)
As for the experiment it sounds good on the surface, although you'd need to
find a group of CM lovers who don't recognize the Beethoven quartets.
