Actually, it's extremely well recorded, by any standard. There is a bit
more tape hiss than one might find in a modern recording, but the ear
(mine, at least) adjusts very quickly to this.
That said, I still recommend the Hickox on Chandos, mostly because I prefer
his soloists. Britten's (Vishnevskaya, Pears, and Fischer-Dieskau) all
have unique sounds, but all are, IMO, acquired tastes.
