There will be wax moth eggs in the combs that you put in the plastic bag. These will hatch and ruin your combs as your friend found. Try putting your combs in the freezer for a couple of days before putting them in the plastic bag. This will kill any eggs and will not leave a residue which you can get with chemicals. Make sure the bag is then sealed so moths cannot get in again.
