Hi Paul:
In my opinion your bumbles are in the midst of their life cycle and
to attempt to move them or some such at this time will be a total
failure and wipe them out.
Bumbles, as you know, are definitely not aggressive and you
have to go some to get stung by one - probably by accidentally
stepping on one-but they are so large that event should be rare
and unless you are clomping thru flower beds.
Your best bet is to attempt to persuade your wife that they
offer no threat to her. The Queen will take off in the fall and find
a good spot to hibernate and the rest will die off. Point out to her that
they are superior pollinators and that it is a good thing that they
don't look on us humans as she looks on them....... :-)
