Description: The archaeologist will assist the State Archaeologist in the
continued development, expansion, and ongoing maintenance of a statewide
computerized database of archaeological site information, including the
coordination, acquisition, and organization of existing archaeological site
information; definition of research and planning needs; formatting and
preparing the database; organization, standardization and formatting of the
data; data entry and processing; data modeling and statistical analysis,
including some GIS interface; development of computer site information
submission and access; assistance in obtaining data for records reviews;
issuance of state site numbers; finalization of a user’s guide; and user
training.
Duration: This position is a full-time temporary appointment. The
starting date is currently open and will be filled as soon as possible.
Wages: $11.08 per hour
Background: Applicants should have a graduate degree in anthropology, with
a specialization in North American Archaeology, and substantial course work
and fieldwork in midwestern prehistory and/or historical archaeology,
preferably both. Applicants should also have demonstrated experience in
research design development, computer and statistical applications of
archaeological data; familiarity with midwestern prehistoric and historical
material culture, experience with archaeological records and records-
keeping, experience with computer databases and word processing programs,
and possess a demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communication.
The applicant must be reliable and must meet the weekly 40 hour time
requirement during the Monday-Friday work week.
