I am in the process of planning two self-guided historic archaeology trails
at Kerr Lake, a Corps of Engineers reservoir in south-central Virginia. One
site is a large spa, resort and mineral water bottling plant, the other an
18th-century cemetery and house ruin belonging to Col. Robert Munford. I am
concerned about promoting access to and detailed knowledge of these sites
because they will be difficult to monitor on a regular basis. I would
appreciate hearing from anyone who has had experience with self-guided
trails, particularly experiences with looting, trail design, signage that
works, etc.

Thanks,

Richard Kimmel, Archaeologist
