HISTARCHers and W-HISTers:
I hit the jackpot with my single page tear-out from a Longarm novel.
My sincere thanks to all of you who responded. I learned much about a
genre I personally knew zilch about. (Being a science fiction fan,
however, I did not think it would take you historical archeologists
and historians long to answer my question!).
According to the respondants, Custis Longarm is the hero of a 250 book
series published by Jove, starting in the 1970's. While most of the
series was written by "Tabor Evans," there may have been other authors
as well. "Evans" himself has gone by at least ten aliases, some of
which are female names. His real name is Harry Whittington, born in
1915. One respondant let me know that these "westerns" are romance
thrillers written largely for men.
One respondant found the book I sought on his own shelf. It is
_Longarm and the Loggers_. His copy was published in 1979.
You all have confirmed my confidence in your great wealth of
knowledge. And you have helped me demonstrate the degree to which the
1898-1916 deposits were contaminated. Thank you for your time and
information!
