Check out the Passport in Time program through the National Forest
1-800-281-9176 or email: [log in to unmask] .  There is no cost to attend.  You
will be responsible for food and lodging (sometimes you can camp free for
volunteering)   Children under 18 are  welcome with adult supervision on
most projects.  If the application date is past due, call anyway they take
late requests if slots are still available.  You usually have to commit for
at least three days.

The Wayne NF in Ohio does not have one this year.

Pennsylvania has two in the Allegheny NF.  Buckaloons from June 21-July 31
(weekends excluded) and Hopkins Farm and Damascus Excavations, June
14-18,21-25,June 8-July 2; July 5-10, the application was due April 15.

West Virgina has one in the Monogahela NF at the Sites Homestead Excavation
Sept 13-17.  Application is due June 15. (Although you may have to be over
18 for this one.)

Michigan has one in the Ottawa NF from June 21-25 at This Old Waginogan.
The application was due April 15.

Illinois (although not next to Ohio) has two in the Shawnee NF, Miller
Grove a free-slave African American community.  June 7-11, 14-18.  I'll be
the supervisor for this site, so of course I highly recommend it and
Millstone Bluff a Mississippian site, July 12-16, 19-23. The application
was due April15.

Illinois has another one at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie, Sept 20-24.
 Applications are due June 15.
