Hello:

As a coin collector ( not from sites, including the SS Centeral America)
the occurance of a coin is affected by many factors, starting with mintage,
value relative to bullion (EG Hunt brothers escapande) The fact that non US
coins were legal tender in the US til 1857 and the economic stituation (
During war times specie coins were hoarded so their occurances are skewed).
Also collectors tend to hoard some coins thinking they will be valuable
later and the premuin evaporates so the hoarded coins enter circulation late.
I am glad to see that there has been at leat one case from the
archaeological record corresponding to mintage, since the studies done by
numismatists can show wide divergences.
