someone was using a digital at the reconstruction of the FRAUENKIRCHE here in
Dresden Germany a few years ago: very nice conversion of a Nikon SLR body
(basically just a black box tacked onto your old reliable 35mm; cost at the time
was about 50,000 DM) the camera was basically being used for trial runs to show
the technology works, and in conjunction with a set of software developed by the
local university: the idea was to be able to take plan or profile photos - or
individual stones from the original building - and "automatically" churn out
drawings for them, already corrected for distortions caused by the lens, etc.
(sort of what irwin schollar is doing with his airphoto program, but applied on
a smaller scale)
