CALL FOR PAPERS
63rd Meeting of the Society for American Archaeology
March 25-29, 1998 Seattle Washington

The Society of American Archaeology Student Affairs Committee is
sponsoring a paper session entitled "Interdisciplinary Approaches in
Archaeology: Tradition and Prospects." The paper session is open to
students currently pursuing degrees or courses of study in archaeology at
any level, and whose research involves interdisciplinary cooperation. A
tentative session abstract is as follows:

Technological innovations and theoretical developments continue to broaden
the horizons of archaeological inquiry. In addition to archaeology's own
investigative and analytical techniques, a host of other disciplines
contribute to our knowledge of the past. Earth sciences, physical
sciences, biological sciences and history are among the areas where
cooperative efforts have proved most fruitful. Such interdisciplinary
approaches are both pioneering and mainstream in archaeology today. The
papers in this session showcase the diversity of interdisciplinary
research being undertaken by today's students. (will continue based upon
papers selected)

Please submit a copy of an abstract according to SAA criteria, along with
a copy of completed conference preregistration (forms only) by August 1,
1998 to:

Jane E. Baxter
University of Michigan
Museum of Anthropology
Room 4009 Museums Building
Ann Arbor, Michigan 48109

Abstracts will be anonymously reviewed by the members of the Student
Affairs Committee, and a final panel of papers will be decided by August
15, 1998. All those submitting abstracts will be notified as soon as
decisions are made. For any additional information or questions, please
