Thanks to all of you who wished me well w/ the birth of #3...Grace
Caroline took her time and finally arrived about 3 weeks "late" on Oct.
27. After a delayed postpartum hemorrhage, I'm now trying to catch up
on digests while learning how to type one-handed once again. So many of
the posts seem discouraging and I couldn't resist sharing a positive
story. The hospital where I birthed had wonderful LDRPs that were very
sound-proof *and* they have an epidural rate of about 25% in an area
where other facilities are boasting 95% or so. The hospital has just
150 beds total, yet they have 5 LCs who provide 24-hour coverage.
During my 2 subsequent hospitalizations, the docs have been great about
finding meds that are most compatible w/ breastfeeding and have made
sure that the dyad is considered, not just me. They've joked about the
drug-free birth and getting my fix now, but it has been an uplifting
experience in the usually discouraging healthcare arena. Grace is
calling and the keyboard doesn't seem to work too well w/ sprays of
breastmilk amongst the keys...:-).
