John Mark,
That sounds like the same floor material we found in the "lumberhouse"
building at Rocketts. It was clay and lime laid, in our case, over
angular granite gravel base. That floor was laid about 1850, if I
remember correctly. I think you should have a copy of the Rocketts
report, so take a look.
