In his 1976 report on work at Fort Moultrie, called "Palmetto Parapets",
Stanley South discusses bone buttons and their manufacture at length. He even
found horse mandibles (I believe) with button blanks cut out of them. This is
avaialble from the SC Inst. of Archaeology (803-777-8170). They have a web
