This is very interesting!!! However, there are other things to consider...

What about the percentage of coins pulled from circulation by the
government once they are too worn... I'm sure they are melted down; also,
I'd bet that most of us have some sort of container that holds our loose
change... in fact, I think I heard somewhere (of course, I couldn't give a
citation) that there are millions of dollars languishing in "penny jars". I
don't know about you, but I know *mine* has never been emptied (we're
looking at jars that have been "in service" for 10 years+).... My point is,
just because they aren't in circulation doesn't mean they're in the
archaeological record! Perhaps the mint or the banks have statistics on this?
