David Breetzke has asked about a number of glass globes that appear to be an
early fire supression system. Two suggestions:

Contact the National Fire Protection Association at 800/344-3555. Their
magazine, NFPA Journal, had an article on early suppression systems a year or
so ago, I believe. In addition, I would bet that there is someone at the main
office that either knows some history or knows someone who does.

Also, try contacting Dr. John Bryan at 301/695-6796. Dr. Bryan is the author
of the authoritative book, Automatic Sprinkler and Standpipe Systems. My guess
is that he has some interest in the history of the systems or can refer you to
someone in the organization that does.

Best,
