MAny thanks for the responses w.r.t the archaeology of crime - I shall
pass them on to the interested party.
I fully agree with the notion that identifying the victim of a violent
crime from the mortuary record is hazardous - wounds can be inflicted as a
result of military activity, ritual activity or for medicinal purposes. I
suspect for this reason that any study should concentrate more upon the
identification of the offenders and their punishments as opposed to the
victims, something which largely was not touched upon. One subject which
would interest me is the idea that social deviancy could be punished by
mortuary segregation, or perhaps a particular method of burial... anyone
got any ideas on that?
