Dear all,

I am posting this query on behalf of an undergraduate at the university of
Reading (England) who is about to begin a dissertation on the
archaeologyical evidence for crime in medieval Britain. She has various
references to follow up specifically on this subject but wants to broaden
her horizons by examining how crime is identified/interpreted
archaeologically elsewhere/in different periods - North American and
Austarlian Historical Archaeology seems to me to be a good place to start.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to a)specific studies of crime as
manifested in the archaeological record b)theoretical work on the pitfalls
of observing crime in the archaeological record?

Thanks for your help,

Tim Eaton
