If you have two hive bodies, the top full of honey and the bottom one
with mainly brood but topped with honey , that is plenty for wintering
in Virginia as well as in most of the USA.  I doubt that y ou would even
have to feed this colony at all with the ample stores they have, except
to medicate them with Fumadil-B if you wish.  The purpose of the super
is to collect surplus honey, and that is what the bees gave you.  Feel
free to harvest it.
