Just a suggestion, but the unabridge Oxford English Dictionary has
wonderful sources on the origin of terms. As the author of several books on
19th and early 20th century saloons and the liquor industry I was
interested in the origins of terms such as Julep (from an arabic term
meaning fermented palm liquor) toddy, and the like. The unabridged Oxford
answered 99% of the questions with unerring accuracy.
