The attached was posted to my Rev War reenactors listserver...does
anyone have a good description of an anchor, used in this context?
According to the Compact OED (Oxford English Dictionary)an alternate
definition for anchor is "any contrivance or instrument which fulfills a
similar pupose to that of an anchor, by holding fast of giving
secuirty." Unfortunately, one can not gain a satisfactory understanding
of one's appearance from this definition.
