The situation is that, depending upon the age of the bottles
recovered, the bottlediggers may actually be breaking the law in
Indiana. In Indiana, breaking the ground to recover artifacts from
sites prior to 1816 (even on private property) and without a permit
(which would include coordination with an archaeologist) is a class
D felony.
